CHIZZY BAGS EIGHTH EURO TOUR CROWN

Dave Chisnall became only the fourth player in history to reach eight European Tour titles after winning the Flanders Darts Trophy on Sunday.

‘Chizzy’ defeated Germany’s Ricardo Pietreczko 8-6 in the final to join Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price and Peter Wright on eight tournament wins on the continent, with six of them coming in just the last two years.

It was a 100th European Tour event to remember for the St Helens man, who chalked up wins against James Wade, Gabriel Clemens, Peter Wright, Chris Dobey and Pietreczko to land the £30,000 top prize in Antwerp.

“I’m really happy, it means a lot to me to win this,” said Chisnall, who has moved up one place to sixth on the PDC Order of Merit.

“I’ve played a great tournament. I got lucky against Peter (Wright), but apart from that I think I deserve to win the event.

“Backstage my manager told me it was my 100th European Tour event so I said to him ‘let’s go win it then’ and thankfully that’s what I’ve done.

“I will win a TV event one day, it will happen. I won’t give in until it does.”

A back and forth finale saw Chisnall open up leads of 3-1 and 4-2, before Pietreczko, who had knocked out the world number one Luke Humphries 7-4 in the semi-finals, reeled off three straight legs to go 5-4 in front.

‘Pikachu’ was appearing in his second European Tour final, the first player from Germany to achieve that feat, and he went 6-5 up to move to within two legs of his second PDC title.

But Chisnall fought back with checkouts of 87 and 115 to regain the lead at 7-6, before holding throw in 16 darts in the next leg to clinch his second European Tour victory of the season.

GREAVES SEALS WOMEN’S SERIES TOP SPOT

Beau Greaves has secured top spot on the Women’s Series Order of Merit for a second consecutive year after winning two titles in Wigan at the weekend.

The reigning Women’s World Matchplay and WDF women’s world champion picked up the Event 17 and Event 18 titles on Saturday.

Greaves would suffer two early exits on the Sunday, but with only four events of the season left to go the 20-year-old has now built up an unassailable lead of more than £8,000 at the top of the rankings.

On Sunday, Gemma Hayter continued her impressive comeback year by claiming her second Women’s Series title of the season.

The 31-year-old beat Mikuru Suzuki 5-1 in the Event 19 final to follow up on her Event 10 success earlier in the campaign.

Ireland’s Robyn Byrne picked up her second career Women’s Series title, and first of 2024, as she overcame Lorraine Winstanley 5-2 in the Event 20 decider.

The Women’s Series concludes with Events 21-24 in Leicester next month and, whilst Greaves has already wrapped up top spot, there is still lots to play for.

The player who finishes in second on the Order of Merit will qualify for November’s Grand Slam of Darts, and second and third spots will also earn places in the PDC World Darts Championship.

Noa-Lynn van Leuven (£13,000) is on course for debuts in both events and currently occupies second spot, ahead of Fallon Sherrock (£10,800), Suzuki (£9,700) and Lisa Ashton (£9,000).
