A Week In Darts - February 24, 2025 - Greaves Goes Top Of Development Tour With Pair Of Titles

Beau Greaves continued her title-winning form in 2025 with another pair of tournament victories at the weekend, whilst a new seniors world champion was crowned at the Circus Tavern. Here's our round-up of the action...

GREAVES HITS SUMMIT OF DEVELOPMENT TOUR

Beau Greaves took an early lead at the top of the Development Tour after winning a pair of titles in Milton Keynes at the weekend.

The first five events of the season took place at Arena MK and saw the reigning WDF women’s world champion continue her impressive start to 2025.

The 21-year-old, who also sits top of the Challenge Tour and Women’s Series rankings, won Events 2 and 4 to climb to the summit of the Development Tour Order of Merit.

New PDC tour card holder Sebastian Bialecki, of Poland, won Event 1, seeing off Owen Bates 5-2 in the opening tournament of the season on Friday.

Β

Greaves then opened her account with a 5-3 victory over Levy Frauenfelder in the Event 2 final, before Bates claimed his first Development Tour title the next day, beating Charlie Manby 5-2 in the finale of Event 3.

Manby wrote his name in the history books in Event 4, posting a 130.70 average during one of his matches in Event 4 – the highest ever recorded average in Development Tour history.

Greaves doubled her title tally for the weekend with a 5-2 success over James Beeton in the Event 4 final, before Bradly Roes lifted his maiden Development Tour title by winning Event 5 on Sunday.

Β

The 2021 JDC world champion saw off Oliver Pearce-Burgess 5-3 in the final to clinch his first title on the PDC’s premier youth circuit.

After five events, Greaves leads the way with Β£5,375 ahead of the other three title winners Bates (Β£3,500), Bialecki (Β£3,400) and Roes (Β£3,000).

The top two players on the Order of Merit after 24 events will win a two year PDC tour card and a spot in the 2025/26 PDC World Darts Championship.

WORLD SENIORS GLORY FOR MONTGOMERY

Ross Montgomery continued Scotland’s dominance in the World Seniors Championship after becoming the latest champion on Saturday.

The 62-year-old defeated Graham Usher 5-1 in the final at the Circus Tavern to join his fellow Scots Robert Thornton and John Henderson on the roll of honor.

Montgomery’s run to the title saw him beat Trina Gulliver, John Part, Thornton and the pre-tournament favorite Steve Beaton, before powering past Usher in the final.

With the match locked at one-set apiece, Usher missed seven set darts to go in front and Montgomery made sure he paid the price, reeling off four straight sets to win the Β£30,000 top prize.

Β

β€œI’ve loved every single minute of it,” Montgomery said. β€œI came here with the fantastic news I’m going to be a grandad.

β€œI dedicate this to my two grandchildren that are coming soon. It’s going to be a good year but I don’t know if I’ve got time to play darts.

β€œWinning this, it’s got to be the icing on the cake, then I’ll need to sit down and discuss what’s happening. It could be a good end to my career.”

DUBLIN DELIGHT FOR PRICE

Gerwyn Price claimed his first nightly win of the Premier League season with a trio of impressive performances in Dublin on Thursday.

β€˜The Iceman’ became the third different winner in as many weeks, as he beat the first two weekly winners Luke Humphries and Luke Littler on his way to victory at the 3Arena.

The Welshman defeated Littler 6-4 in his quarter-final opener, before a finishing masterclass helped him overcome the world number one Humphries 6-3 to advance to the final.

Price capped off a memorable night in the Emerald Isle with a 6-3 triumph against Nathan Aspinall to take the full quota of five points, which moves him up to second in the table.

Β

β€œIt was a great night for me,” said Price, who celebrates his first nightly win in the Premier League since April 2023.

β€œI’m not sure what it is but Luke Littler seems to bring the best out of me, so that was a great game to come through.

β€œThen to beat the world number one was big for me. I felt like the crowd got me through that game. It was like playing in Cardiff again!

β€œI felt like I was playing well last year, but I was missing chances and getting punished. This year I’m taking my chances, I’m playing really well and the results are coming.”

The Premier League season continues with night four in Exeter this Thursday (February 27).
